Parashah Readings

Below is a table indicating the weekly Parashah readings according to Jewish tradition whereby the Torah is divided into 54 sections and read in the synagogue each Shabbat.  In addition to the Torah readings, there would also be an HafTorah portion relating to the Torah portion that would also be read.  As believers in Yeshua as the Messiah of Israel, we also include suggested portions from the Brit Hadashah.

There are 54 parashah because when there is a leap year (the addition of a 13 month to the Jewish lunar calendar) there would be sufficient parashah.  When there isn't a leap year and thus, only 12 months, certain parashah are combined and read together.

On Simchat Torah (Joy of the Torah) observed usually in October, after Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles),  the last chapter of Deuteronomy is read.  Once completed, the Torah scroll is rewound and Genesis 1:1 is read, emphasizing the continuation of the cycle in reading Torah.  This cycle lasts for the entire year.

In addition to the weekly readings, there are also selected reading set aside for the Feasts and other special days.  This page will include a separate table with this information.  The special readings are arranged in chronological order, based on the Jewish calendar, beginning with Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish new year) which falls during the months of either September or October.

The Brit Hadashah readings are considered to be suggested and in some instances includes more material.  

With regards to the Haf Torah portions, there are different versions for both Ashkenazic and Sefardic readings.  The table below combines both and offers the longer of the two portions.
