Throughout the Torah and Prophets, God has proclaimed the coming of the Messiah.  This presentation offers in table form, God's promises and fulfillment of His promises as provided in His Word.

Birth of the Messiah

The Messiah would come from the seed of a woman, not a man.

And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.  Genesis 17:19 (Isaac)

And behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham, thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it and to thy seed.  And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south, and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.  Genesis 28:13 - 14 (Jacob)

I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not near: there shall come a start out of Jacob, and a Sceptre (Kingdom) shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.  Numbers 24:17

God's Promise Fulfillment of God's Promise
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:  And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,  the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;  And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord:  and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked, and righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.  Isaiah 11:1 - 5

And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of the bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.  He shall build an house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.  2 Samuel 7:12 - 13

The Messiah would be born in Bethlehem
God's Promise Fulfillment of God's Promise
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be the ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old from everlasting.  Micah 5:2

Now, when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.  Matthew 2:1

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David:  To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.  And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.  And she brought forth her firstborn son...Luke 2:4 - 7

God set a specific time for the Messiah's birth
God's Promise Fulfillment of God's Promise
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks and three score and two weeks shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.  Daniel 9:25

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.  And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.  And all went to be taxed, everyone into his own city.  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David:  To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.  Luke 2:1 - 5

The Messiah was to be born of a virgin
God's Promise Fulfillment of God's Promise
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.  Isaiah 7:14

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise:  When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.  Matthew 1:18

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin name was Mary.  And the angel came in unto her and said Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.  And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.  And the angel said unto her,  Fear not, Mary:  for thou has found favor with God.  And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call His name Jesus.  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David:  And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end.  Luke 1:26 - 33

There would be a massacre of infants

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.  Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,  In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.  Matthew 2:16 - 18

The Messiah would go to Egypt
God's Promise Fulfillment of God's Promise
When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.  Hosea 11:1

When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night and departed into Egypt.  And was there until the death of Herod:  that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.  Matthew 2:14 - 15
